Operations Analyst Program

The Operations Analyst Program is SIG’s rotational development programprogramme that offers a broad and in-depth exposure to business operations at SIG. It will prepare you for an operations position that immediately impacts SIG’s business.

Desk Rotations

You will spend the first six months of the programprogramme gaining in-depth exposure to trading by rotating through multiple operations teams. Throughout the program, you will rotate across various trading desk and business areas at SIG to deepen your understanding of the firm. At the end of your rotations, you will be placed in a permanent role that matches your skill set and interests, as well as our business needs.

“The majority of my time in the OA Program was spent on various desks throughout the firm. I sat with operations analysts to learn about their daily responsibilities, desk heads to learn about the business impact of their respective groups, and even traders to gain an understanding of how decisions are made. When I wasn’t shadowing or in a classroom setting, I was often given the opportunity to complete daily tasks to get a feel of what it’s like to be on the desk full-time. In my free time, I was also given project work. Several of the reports and analysis I completed were, and still are, looked at by traders and desk heads on a daily basis . It was rewarding to know that I was having an immediate and important impact on the business.”

Classroom Education

In addition to rotations, the programprogramme includes classroom training sessions focused on developing company-specific knowledge, technical skills, and business effectiveness skills. Weeklong classroom sessions, which are led by business heads at SIG, take place in-between rotations and help solidify concepts learned on the desk.

“Before arriving at SIG for my first day on the job, my education had already begun. I was provided with books to familiarize myself with the way SIG thinks and the systems SIG uses. During the program, I went through classes for Excel, SQL, and proprietary systems, as well as numerous presentations related to SIG’s businesses. This education helped generate ideas for ways to implement technical solutions to increase efficiency for the firm.”

Mentorship

Throughout the programprogramme, you will be mentored by a senior member of SIG’s Operations team, who will work with you to guide your development process. Your mentor will be available as a resource for you, to provide insight and advice as you grow with SIG.

Career Path

Our Operations team fosters an intellectually stimulating environment that is open to new ideas. Our flat hierarchy allows for Operations Analysts to work with key members of the firm and impact our business as soon as they start.

“During my time in the OA program, I gained exposure to the firm and developed relationships that allowed me to hit the ground running when I was ultimately placed into the Equity/Index Operations group. Once placed, the more I learned, the more responsibility I was given, ranging from daily tasks to projects for the trading desk I supported. As I began automating processes and gaining experience, my role evolved into a more senior role. I now am responsible for overseeing some daily desk operations and deeper dives into ideas and issues.”

Operations Analyst Internship

Our Operations internship is designed to introduce you to SIG’s business areas and unique culture. You will be assigned to a specific desk where you will work on a combination of long-term projects and daily tasks. In addition, you will have the opportunity to spend time on other desks to broaden your understanding of operations as a whole. Our summer programprogramme provides an informative internship experience and serves as the primary hiring source for our full-time Operations Analyst programprogramme.

Intern Education

As an intern, you will participate in classes that will cover key theoretical subjects through a series of lectures offered either during the workday or after hours. Topics include technical training, operations, and trading desk overviews, as well as probability and expectation.

“My internship with SIG was the first time I was exposed to the concepts, technology, and environment of a fast paced trading firm. Though I felt overwhelmed at first, I quickly became comfortable and confident as I started SIG’s educational program. The teachers, who were also my co-workers, covered topics such as options theory, history of the markets, and technology training. As an intern, SIG gave me the tools and knowledge to contribute to my team in a faster and more meaningful way. As a current full time employee, I now have the opportunity to share my knowledge with each new class of interns as an instructor teaching Excel VBA and SQL.”
