Our roles for new grads combine challenging, hands-on work with classroom education so that you can make an impact quickly while learning more about our technical environment. We will customize a learning and development plan for you throughout your first year so we can build on the skills you already have. We place new grads into the following teams:
Throughout your first year, we will introduce you to our technology environment and the specific technologies you will use at SIG. You will get exposure to different areas of the firm and learn how we use many different technologies. Here are a few of the learning opportunities you will have during your first year:
We offer a variety of classes to get you up to speed on any technologies that will be needed for success in your role – Networking, How We use C++ at SIG, and Databases are just a few examples.
SIG is a very collaborative technical environment. To help you understand other technologies or how you and your work interacts with other teams, you will participate in customized learning rotations. Rotations could last anywhere from a few days to a few months depending on how much knowledge and expertise you need to gain during the rotation.
No matter what team you are on at SIG, getting a “big picture” perspective of technology at SIG is important. Senior technologists provide overviews of their technical teams, the products they have created in house, and how the teams interact and work together to impact the business. You’ll also gain exposure to various trading desks in order to learn more about our industry.
Our Technology Associate (TA) Programme provides you with an opportunity to work with and learn from experienced technologists and traders across a variety of business critical teams. When you join our TA Programme, you will experience first-hand how technology drives trading in today’s financial markets—both in the classroom and as a contributing team member.
A core component of our nine-month development programme includes a three month rotation to our global head office just outside of Philadelphia, where you will participate in classroom sessions and technical rotations to learn about both SIG business and technology.
During the TA Programme you will participate in technology and finance classes led by senior technologists and traders. The education associated with our TA Programme aims to familiarise you with our technology environment, our business, current industry topics pertaining to technology, and how we apply decision science at SIG.
For the Research Project, TAs are paired with Assistant Traders who are tasked with developing a trading strategy. During this project, you will work in small teams to form hypotheses and backtest your ideas, while receiving feedback from senior quants and technologists. At the end of the project, your group will present your strategy to key SIG employees.
You will work on a multidisciplinary project that you will complete with your peers. Your TA group will be responsible for requirements gathering, coding, iterating, testing and delivering the final product. This project will allow you to leverage what you learned and the relationships you built throughout the programme. On completion, you will present your project to technology leaders at SIG.
Our summer interns work on challenging projects that will be pushed into production. Interns at SIG get to learn about technology in a complex environment while also gaining real world, hands-on work experience. Our teams use a variety of platforms (Linux and Windows) and programming languages (primarily C++, C#, and Python). We hire sophomores and juniors into many different teams including: Software Development, Infrastructure & Engineering, and Support. Our internship program is typically 10 weeks long and runs over the summer.
The goal of our education program is to familiarize you with our business and how we use technology to solve challenging problems. Our interns have the opportunity to learn how technology drives trading in today’s financial markets, both in the classroom and as a contributing team member. The hands on opportunities that you’ll experience within our environment allow you to put what you’ve learned in the classroom to practice.
SIG’s Technology Internship Programme gives you the opportunity to work as part of a development team in Dublin to deliver technical solutions in support of our trading systems.
From the beginning you will be working with senior technologists who will mentor you throughout your programme. Through a combination of hands on work and class room discussion, you will learn about how we solve the technical challenges of building the best trading systems using leading edge hardware and software technologies. The Technology Internship allows you to get involved with development teams that are competing at a world-class level in the financial sector.
We want you to have a fun experience during your internship. We arrange many social events for the interns to get to know other interns, employees and managers at SIG. There is a relaxed dress code: jeans and trainers are the norm. Our goal is to make you feel well-informed by the end of the internship and have the insight that you need to consider SIG for full-time opportunities.
